The Inspiration for this Blog

One of my favorite quotes is “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.”  This quote has come to have a powerful meaning to me as this is something I witnessed while watching my sister Sherry during her struggle with inflammatory breast cancer. Sherry showed such courage and compassion as she battled this horrible disease.

It was Sherry’s desire to help and encourage other women who were battling this disease. She created beautiful beaded bracelets and attached a note of friendship and encouragement to each bracelet. She gave the bracelets to her doctor to distribute to other women who were diagnosed with cancer. Sherry also handcrafted small angel necklaces and they were sold at cancer walks with the proceeds given to cancer charities. Sherry helped raise several hundred dollars for cancer charities this way. I remember spending many hours with Sherry helping her cut ribbon and put these angels together… I will always cherish that time in my heart.  I know there were many times that Sherry did not feel well physically, there were times she was in pain as we sat around the table making her jewelry, but Sherry wanted to encourage and help others.  I know Sherry also benefitted greatly from investing a little bit of herself in others.

Although we lost Sherry to cancer in December 2008, she will always be in our hearts and her desire “to do what she could, where she was, with what she had” will forever inspire me to follow her example... I hope it will also inspire you too! I LOVE YOU SHERRY!
