November 15 - "Oh Mitten Tree... Oh Mitten Tree"
Here's another fun idea for the holidays! This is a great idea for work places, classrooms, businesses or any group of people. Give the gift of warmth this holiday season ... Host a "Mitten Tree!"
This is a simple, low cost way to help those in your area who might need a little help as the cold weather approaches. You can easily involve the "little ones" in this project and what a great way to teach compassion and giving!
How it works...
-Decide on a time frame for your collection.
(Dec. 1 through Christmas)
-Decide on a location.
-Decide on a recipient.
(find an organization in your area, such as a family services organizations, homeless shelters or schools.)
-Put up a Christmas Tree.
-Ask everyone to help "decorate" your tree with gloves, scarves and hats. (you can include boots or other needed items if you like.)
-Deliver your 'mittens' to your recipient organization.
Soliciting donations of brand new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves (for men, women and children) to decorate your "Mitten Tree" is important for your success. Make sure you promote your "Mitten Tree" to as many people as possible. You might also ask for donations of new or gently used Beanie Babies or other small stuffed animals for the children. You decide what you want to collect... this is all about finding a need and meeting that need!
